the triangle is the strongest shape. according to r. buckminster fuller, "the entire universe is in tension." if we could see a universe being born, perhaps this is what it would look (and sound) like. soundtrack based on one of fm3's buddha machine's loops. 2007-10-28T02:12:21.000Z

Instruction on how to make "buckyballs" (dodecahedron, truncated icosahedron) from "PHiZZ" units. www.merrimack.edu For what it's worth...some facts: - It looks complicated but it is really easy to make. Much easier than the "5 intersecting tetrahedra" or even an origami swan! - The unit used in this modular is Thomas Hull's "PHiZZ" unit (pentagon-hexagon zig-zag unit). - Another advantage is you can fold it from standard square memo pads and do something else the same time as these PHiZZ units are really simple to make. - It may look fragile but the links are quite strong you can build giant models with these. - The big model shown the "standard" buckyball is a representation of the Buckminster fullerene molecule, which consists of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a sphere (32 planes: 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons all neatly arranged around a sphere). - Very good remedy against boredom, high blood pressure, smoking, insanity, anxiety, stress, excess spare time, restlessness etc. etc.! ;) Music by www.pacdv.com/sounds/ - "oriental drift" 2008-03-25T22:53:46.000Z

When you consider the 30-unit Stella Conica a dodecahedron from 12 5-petal flowers it is a small step to the truncated icosahedron AKA Buckyball made out of 12 5-petal flowers and 20 6-petal flowers all from Miyuki Kawamura's Stella Conica modules. Basically the same but now you create the 6-unit flowers in between the 5-petal flowers. Great when it's raining all day and you are watching a movie... I can make those modules blindfolded while taking a shower by now!! ; ) 2010-03-06T19:29:52.000Z

Answers some questions. ^-^ (1) I made the decorating tip myself. I'll show you how if I have time. (2) I don't use Fimo. It's a kind of polymer clay made in Japan. I don't have to bake them. They will just dry. (3) It doesn't matter what kind of polymer clay you use. I think you can do it with any kind of polymer clay you prefer. 2007-08-06T03:47:00.000Z
